Our Story & Mission
Our Story
Open Avenues has served Northwest Arkansas since 1975. Founded as the Adult Development Center of Benton County, we were created to meet a critical need: providing opportunities for adults with disabilities beyond the traditional school setting. As our programs grew, so did our understanding of each participant’s capabilities—and the fulfillment that comes from meaningful work.
Today, Open Avenues supports more than 100 participants through life and job skills training, on-site and community employment, a high school transition program, and transportation services. Our work is rooted in one belief: people who want to work should have the opportunity to do so.
We serve individuals with a wide range of diagnosed disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, brain injuries, and mental health conditions. Through individualized support, participants build skills, gain independence, and experience the dignity and purpose that come with working.
Our dedicated team—program staff, job coaches, instructors, and drivers—walks alongside participants every step of their journey. With ongoing training and a shared commitment to excellence, they help create a supportive environment where individuals can grow, contribute, and belong.
Our Mission
Empowering people with disabilities to work, grow, and live with purpose.
Our vision
A community where people of all abilities have the opportunity to contribute, connect and belong.
